Even though the United Nations and the NATO Alliance are the two largest and most influential bodies from which international law comes from, there are many other International Bodies and Non-Government organizations which play a crucial role in International Law. Here are some of them

The European Union

At the end of World War 2 Europe was left in ruins. This alliance was formed initially as a means to rebuild the war torn continent. It was conceived by Winston Churchill to be kind of a " United States of Europe."  He advocated and fostered the growth of this United Europe movement. Many people joined and soon the European Union was formed.

Its first major accomplishments was the managing and handling of the aid money and reconstruction assistance provided by the Marshall Plan. Through the EU Europe was rebuilt and new strong economic and political ties were formed during this period.

Throughout time the EU has grown and now serves as a major economic force in Europe. Special benefits are given to European countries in the EU and in return they agree to abide by the many treaties and regulations that the EU has for its member states. This in effect encourages countries to behave according to International Law and respect Human Rights to get the benefits of the economic security provided by the European Union.

This strategy has worked so far, and as proof of this many European countries have switched their currency to the Euro, a new multinational European currency endorsed by the EU.

Red Cross

There are many national Red Cross organizations which are healthcare charity and humanitarian assistance organizations. However, the International Red Cross is a much more dynamic and influential group. There primary goal is to provide relief to people in armed conflicts across the globe. It was founded in the 1860s as a response to the wars that were occurring at the time. The International Red Cross is also a major source of International Law. The reason is that through its mission to provide relief to people in armed conflict it has also been strengthened in its powers by the rules of war established by the Geneva Conventions after the first and second world wars. It is probably best known for its roles in examining POWs across the globe. This is one of its primary functions seeing as not letting the Red Cross examine POWs can be a major embarrassment to a country at war. The Red Cross makes sure that the rights of those POWs are respected and that the prisoners are not violated. It also helps to protect civilians from armed conflict. It raises awareness about civilian areas and strongly encourages countries at war to due their utmost to protect civilians. Finally, it provides much needed economic relief to people whose lives have been devastated by armed conflict.

International Atomic Energy Commission
The IAEA is the Nuclear Authority of the World. Formed by the United Nations to halt the spread of atomic weapons, it is the major international organization which deals with the proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Their method of achieving this goal is by sending international inspectors to known proliferators and overseeing their disarmament. Examples of this process took place in both Iraq and North Korea.
The World Trade Organization
The only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world's trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
The World Environmental Organization
The WEO is a nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation of Earth's limited and threatened natural resources. Its main purpose is to develop and implement strategies for preventing future environmental destruction in over 50 countries.
The World Health Organization
The WHO coordinates programs aimed at solving health problems and the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health. It works in areas such as immunization, health education and the provision of essential drugs.
The Arab League
The Arab League is an organization created by the Governments of the Middle to create political unity among the Arab World. Similar to the Council of Europe members meet regularly to discuss issues and create a unified Arab reaction to these issues. The main issue for the Arab League has been the Israel-Palestine conflict. The Arab League has worked hard to try to create a peace plan that both Israel and Palestine could accept to end the fighting.
OPEC
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in an influential economic alliance between eleven developing nations who combined control 40% of the world's oil. Since oil is the main product for these countries, OPEC works to maximize the use of this valuable resource by these countries to foster economic development.
The International Law Students Association
In 1962, some students founded the Association of Student International Law Societies (ASILS). The founders, believing that the principles of international law should be more fully understood and recognized, were determined to educate ourselves and our fellow students in the principles of international law, international organizations and institutions, and comparison of legal systems.
The International Monetary Fund
The IMF is an international organization of 183 member countries, established to promote international monetary cooperation, exchange stability, and orderly exchange arrangements; to foster economic growth and high levels of employment; and to provide temporary financial assistance to countries to help ease balance of payments adjustment.
Amnesty International

They are funded primarily through donation and operated through volunteers. They have global reach and there are even programs through many school districts which enables students to join through the school.
