About the English Language Arts Department
The
English Department offers a wide variety of courses designed to fulfill
the state requirements for graduation and encourage student growth as
readers, writers, and thinkers. The English Department strives to
provide a balanced literacy program that develops the literacy skills
necessary for college, career success, and full participation as
citizens. In accordance with NYS Education Department's recommendations
for an integrated curriculum, Northport's well designed and
comprehensive program enables students to use language to gain
information, discover meaning, make critical judgments and evaluations
about texts, formulate viewpoints and arguments, discover the value of
reading, writing, and thinking critically, and explore issues of human
experience that affect the quality of life.
